President of Republika Srpska Siniša Karan stated that the military operation known as “Bljesak” (Flash) represents a war crime and ethnic cleansing of Serbs from Western Slavonia, emphasizing that the truth must be preserved from revision.
Speaking in Gradiška at a commemoration marking 31 years since the 1995 operation, Karan said that the events of the 1990s should be viewed in a broader historical context, including earlier conflicts in the region. He stressed the importance of remembering victims and maintaining historical awareness.
According to his remarks, the operation resulted in the displacement of thousands of Serbs and significant civilian casualties. He also noted that preserving memory is essential not to deepen divisions, but to honor victims and contribute to long-term peace.
Karan concluded that Republika Srpska remains committed to remembrance, stability, and safeguarding the identity and continuity of its people.
