The Balkans can move in any geopolitical direction and should use that strategic flexibility, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Mehmed Kemal Bozay said during a regional panel at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
Speaking at the forum in Antalya, Bozay said the discussion highlighted the need to keep younger generations in the region if the Balkans wants a stable future.
He pointed to the Nordic countries as an example of interconnected states that, to some extent, share common policies, adding that a similar model could be considered in Southeast Europe.
“The Balkans can turn politically toward any side of the world, even south toward Africa, and that should be used,” Bozay said.
Near the end of the panel, Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković used a question from the audience to criticize Serbia and Republika Srpska, specifically referring to Aleksandar Vučić and Milorad Dodik.
According to the report, Konaković objected to Dodik standing beside Vučić during a recent press conference in Belgrade.
The panel concluded shortly after the exchange.
