Šekovići Municipality will, for the first time, host the finish of a stage at the jubilee 20th edition of the international cycling race “Belgrade–Banja Luka.”
The third, so-called “queen” stage—the most demanding one—will run from Bratunac via Milići and Vlasenica, covering 116 kilometers, and will finish in Šekovići on April 24. This was agreed between the municipality’s mayor Miladin Lazić and race director Vladimir Kuvalja.
- We are proud and pleased to be part of the “Belgrade–Banja Luka” cycling caravan for the sixth year. We are especially happy that this year we will welcome cyclists at the finish line. Our citizens will have the opportunity to witness a true spectacle. This is the crown of our participation in this project. It is also a great opportunity to showcase our tourism potential – Lazić said.
Šekovići had been a pass-through point for the third stage over the past five years.
- It is gratifying to see where Šekovići stands today—a municipality that is developing and moving forward steadily and increasingly quickly. It is particularly significant that Šekovići has been given the honor of hosting the finish of the third stage. This is not just a sporting event—it is a strong message that the municipality has the capacity to host major international events, position itself on the regional map, and attract public attention, investors, and tourists – Kuvalja stated.
The 20th edition of the race begins on April 22 in Belgrade, with the first stage finishing in Požarevac, followed by a circuit race in Veliko Gradište. The second stage, on April 23, runs from Obrenovac to Zvornik. The final stage will take place on April 25, starting in Prijedor and finishing in Doboj.
A total of 175 cyclists from 25 teams across all continents are expected to participate.
