An exhibition titled “Women in the Middle Ages in Bosnia and Serbia” has opened at the Museum of Republika Srpska in Banja Luka, curated by historian Aleksandra Popić.
The exhibition highlights the importance of women in medieval history, from Helen of Anjou to Angelina Branković, as well as many notable queens, princesses, noblewomen, empresses, and other historical figures who shaped the Middle Ages.
The display presents an idealized three-dimensional representation of medieval female costumes, illustrating the roles women of that era could have had: a ruler, a noblewoman, a nun, and a woman from the common people.
These four social roles of women are represented through four reconstructed medieval costumes.
