Galijašević welcomes Trump’s decision to classify the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization

Security expert Dževad Galijašević welcomed the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration to classify branches of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan as terrorist organizations.

Galijašević told Srna that these are organizations known for antisemitism and support for Hamas—phenomena that, he said, have also been publicly manifested in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“In that sense, it is important that measures be taken here as well against individuals connected to these branches of the Muslim Brotherhood,” Galijašević said.

He stressed that the Muslim Brotherhood is a global terrorist organization, recalling that it has been active in Bosnia and Herzegovina since before World War II, with figures such as Husein Đozo and Kasim Dobrača.

“It operated during World War II with Alija Izetbegović and other cadres. In 1948, the anti-fascist authorities of Yugoslavia executed four members of the Muslim Brotherhood because of these ties. When we speak of the Muslim Brotherhood, we are speaking about the formation of all military formations and terrorist organizations,” Galijašević said.

According to him, notorious formations such as the 13th SS Division during World War II and the El Mujahideen detachment during the 1992–1995 war in Bosnia and Herzegovina were formed precisely thanks to, and with the involvement of, the Muslim Brotherhood.

“When it comes to the decision of the U.S. president, we are talking about banning certain organizations that distinguished themselves by spreading antisemitism and supporting Hamas. However, support for Hamas also came from Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Muslim Brotherhood has its own active organizations, primarily the ‘Young Muslims,’” Galijašević said.

He noted that this is an organization that has been active for more than 80 years.

According to Galijašević, the current activities of the Muslim Brotherhood in Bosnia and Herzegovina are reflected through Wahhabi settlements and departures to battlefields in Syria.

Galijašević believes that sooner or later the United States will realize that the network in Bosnia and Herzegovina is global, noting that the European Union has also placed the Muslim Brotherhood on its list of terrorist organizations.

“The United States will sooner or later understand that the Muslim Brotherhood has its strongest foothold in Europe precisely in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Europe has placed this organization on the list of terrorist organizations, but has never taken any measures against them,” Galijašević said.

He added that the explanation for this was given by Alija Izetbegović himself, who, Galijašević claims, believed that the Islamization of the state and society should be carried out aggressively, without regard for the international factor, and that all international pressure would be countered by major Islamic states such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, and others.

The security expert believes that the decision by the U.S. administration will not be well received in Turkey and Qatar, noting that in addition to these two centers, there is also one in London.

U.S. President Donald Trump recently announced that he had signed a decision launching the process for his administration to officially designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.

Trump’s order instructs U.S. institutions to examine whether branches of the Brotherhood in Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, and other countries should be classified as foreign terrorist organizations.
