Slobodan Župljanin, president of the Organization of Senior Officers of the Army of Republika Srpska, said that the statement by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Minister of Defense Zukan Helez—claiming that “the time has come to start a serious discussion on abolishing the entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina”—amounts to a shot at Bosnia and Herzegovina itself.
Župljanin said it is “time for the Sarajevo hawks to fall silent once and for all,” stressing that Helez’s remark is one in a series of absurd and irresponsible statements that cause the greatest damage to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He recalled that Bosnia and Herzegovina is composed of two entities and three constituent peoples, and that Republika Srpska entered such a state community of its own free will.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina is increasingly disappearing, while Republika Srpska is growing stronger, because the will of the Serb people to defend Republika Srpska by democratic means—today, in peace—is even stronger than it was during the war,” Župljanin said, adding that statements like Helez’s will lead to less Bosnia and Herzegovina and more Republika Srpska.
Župljanin noted that 2026 is an election year and that such statements will certainly intensify, as will the determination of the Serb people to defend their Republika Srpska.
