Young Filip Đokić from Brčko wins doubles title in Florida

Sixteen-year-old tennis player Filip Đokić from Brčko has won first place in the doubles competition at the Orange Bowl tournament in Florida, widely regarded as the unofficial world championship for junior tennis.

Đokić, playing alongside American partner Sean Peng, defeated the American duo Rafael Pavar and Wang Zesen in the final with 2–0 in sets (6:4, 7:6 (4)).

A member of Serbia’s national junior team, Đokić competed at the tournament under the Serbian tricolour. He has already collected numerous titles in his young career, but this is his greatest achievement so far.

He said he was pleased to have an excellent partner, whom he met and played with for the first time.

“I’m overjoyed about winning the doubles title. Of course, it wasn’t easy to be the best among 64 great players. Together with my coach Dušan Milovanović, I travelled to the USA on December 3, and this December 13 will forever remain a joyful memory for me,” Đokić said.

On their way to the title, Đokić and Peng won their opening match against the Wright twins, advanced from the round of 16 with a 2–1 victory over Hejal and Pape, and reached the semifinals after a dramatic quarterfinal in which they saved four match points before Vaughan and Ross retired at 2–1.

In the semifinal, they defeated Good and Pedraza 2–0.

Đokić also competed in singles. After three convincing wins in the qualifiers — against American prospects Ved Wang (2–0), Alexander Dirlew (2–0), and Gurbaz Narang (2–0) — he reached the main draw, where he lost in the first round to Wang Zesen, whom he ultimately avenged by winning the doubles final.
