Banjac: Protect Republika Srpska — without it, Serbs cannot survive

Darko Banjac, president of NPS, stated that Republika Srpska remains firmly preserved 30 years after the signing of the Dayton Agreement, standing as one of the historical state-building achievements of the Serb people. He emphasized that Serbs must safeguard Srpska as the guarantee of their survival in the region.

“I will repeat it: thanks to its creation, Serbs survived here — they were not expelled, nor did they meet the fate they faced in the Second World War. That is why we must protect Srpska to the fullest in the future,” Banjac told Srna.

He noted that continuing pressures on Republika Srpska, present since Dayton, would only strengthen the resolve of local Serbs to seek statehood and full independence.

“If the internal and external pressures continue, along with the dismantling of Srpska aimed at unitarizing BiH, our people will simply have no other choice,” Banjac explained.

He expressed hope that reason will prevail in BiH and that, within the framework of Dayton, Republika Srpska and the rights and interests of the Serb people will be respected.

“Dayton brought peace to this region, but under the current actions of the weakened Constitutional Court of BiH, this is not the peace agreement signed 30 years ago. Srpska must, peacefully and decisively, fight for its rights,” Banjac concluded.

The General Framework Agreement for Peace in BiH, known as the Dayton Peace Agreement, was reached on November 21, 1995, at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio, and formally signed on December 14 in Paris.
In the years after its signing, a large number of Republika Srpska’s competencies were taken away under pressure from the OHR and the Constitutional Court of BiH and transferred to the level of BiH.
