Republika Srpska has succeeded in redefining its political position and strengthening its status within Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as on the international stage, President Milorad Dodik said.
Following a series of meetings with officials in Washington and Moscow, Dodik emphasized that Republika Srpska now enjoys stronger diplomatic support than ever before.
While Sarajevo media and the opposition in Republika Srpska attempt to portray this as a defeat, he said, the reality is clear — it represents a diplomatic success and a new beginning.
“Republika Srpska has repositioned itself — its current standing is dramatically better than it was just ten months ago, when we were practically facing liquidation,” Dodik stated.
He added that the foreign-policy achievements are the result of direct engagement with key decision-makers in the United States and Russia — the countries shaping future global relations:
“We believe that the U.S. and Russia — unlike overly emotional Europeans — will reshape the world order. What we are doing is making sure that this small Republika Srpska, small in population but not so small in territory, remains on their radar.”
Serb member of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović rejected claims that the latest political moves represent capitulation.
“The National Assembly must recognize when the moment calls for pressure and when it calls for compromise. After the decisions adopted on October 18, the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Embassy welcomed improved cooperation with Republika Srpska — something quite unusual. Just days later, the Russian Federation also welcomed these actions,” Cvijanović highlighted.
This shift also marks the firm return of the SNSD as an indispensable political actor in Sarajevo. After months of declarations by the “Trojka” coalition that they would no longer cooperate with SNSD, the political reality now points in the opposite direction.
“President Dodik invited all parliamentary parties in BiH to dialogue — they refused. That only shows their lack of maturity. SNSD has demonstrated what organization, responsibility, and strategic thinking look like,” said Sanja Vulić, head of the SNSD caucus in the BiH Parliamentary Assembly.
Dodik reiterated that Republika Srpska remains a key decision-making factor in BiH and that the coming months will be crucial:
“We will clearly say what we agree with — and what we do not.”
