National interest cannot be traded for some aid from Brussels, and the problem is that Serbs—no matter who is in power—will always be seen as a problem in BiH, said Republika Srpska Minister of Interior Željko Budimir.
Speaking in the National Assembly this evening, Budimir pointed out that the agenda of Brussels and others is to reduce Serbs to the status of a national minority.
“I love European civilization, I am a student of that civilization, but this is not the Europe in which we should be seeking anything. There is no longer nobility or light there,” Budimir stressed.
He also referred to Slovenia, saying it is not a good example, since it broke apart Yugoslavia, which the Serbs had built.
“The secession they created and the development they achieved in former Yugoslavia came at the expense of Serb lands and Serb territories. At this moment, there is no national minority status for Serbs working in Slovenia,” Budimir noted.
He assessed that for EU Commissioner Marta Kos and for the Slovenian president and leadership, the real issue is not Milorad Dodik and the SNSD being in power, but the fact that they envision a unitary BiH—which, he added, is also a problem for Croatia, all other countries, and Brussels itself.
“The problem is that Serbs, regardless of who is in power, will be seen as a problem in BiH. Tomorrow, even if Nebojša Vukanović were president, they would still seek to make Serbs a minority in BiH, to give them a status that can be managed at will,” Budimir explained.
He emphasized that one may argue another government might do better, but, he noted, that would not be the case when it comes to their attitude toward Serbs.
Budimir pointed out that there is a neoliberal West that has imposed certain values which are now disappearing.
“Thank God they are disappearing,” the minister added.
He underlined that the only strongholds of those values are Brussels, Berlin, and perhaps Paris, and that it is impossible to win their favor.
“No one can be acceptable unless they obey their neocolonial approach to this country, and in that there is no difference,” Budimir said.
According to him, the countries with which cooperation should be sought are China, the Russian Federation, and others, as well as the patriotic bloc within the EU that defends the Europe of nations, not the EU in which there is no longer freedom of thought.
“We cannot trade our national interest for some aid from Brussels. Right now, that aid amounts to six billion for what they call the Western Balkans, and BiH would get 300 million. To accept it, you would have to change your values, and that is not the right path,” Budimir said.
He noted that the world is no longer in the unipolar phase of American pax Americana.
“That no longer exists. We must adapt to this. That is the way for our survival,” the minister added.
He said that interdependence in today’s world is so great that if we do not recognize these changes and find friends, survival here will not be possible.
