Chinese Embassy: Mehmedović should not interfere in China’s internal affairs

The Chinese Embassy in BiH informed the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH that Representative Šemsudin Mehmedović had slandered and discredited developments in China’s Xinjiang Province, thereby interfering in China’s internal affairs, which is not in line with the friendly relations between the two countries and contradicts their shared interests.

The Embassy stated that Mehmedović made these remarks in a speech at a conference in Sarajevo on September 4, convened by the Center for Uyghur Studies and the Campaign for Uyghurs, in order to promote his anti-China stance on Xinjiang.

“Two officials from BiH – Šemsudin Mehmedović and Adi Kalem – delivered speeches at this conference slandering and discrediting developments in Xinjiang and China’s policies,” the Embassy said, adding that this took place during the year marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Chinese side, the letter emphasizes, expresses deep concern and strong opposition to such obvious interference in China’s internal affairs.

It is noted that the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region has experienced social stability, economic growth, ethnic unity, harmony among different religions, cultural development, and improvements in people’s well-being.

The Embassy pointed out that these are fundamental and indisputable facts that are fully recognized, and that the rumors and lies about Xinjiang are unfounded.

“They are fabricated and spread by anti-China forces and malicious institutions and media, and anyone who has ever been to Xinjiang can confirm that these are completely fake news,” the letter from the diplomatic mission, seen by Srna, stated.

It was underlined that the affairs of Xinjiang are exclusively China’s internal matters and do not tolerate interference by any foreign country in any form.

The Embassy in BiH emphasized that the statements and actions of the two officials run contrary to the basic norms governing international relations, while pointing out that this year marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and BiH, during which the two countries have engaged in numerous friendly activities.

“In this context, the relevant anti-China actions of such a vile nature are not consistent with the friendly relations between the two countries and contradict our shared interests,” the Embassy in BiH stated.

The Embassy expressed hope that the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH will fully recognize the importance and sensitivity of issues related to Xinjiang, adhere to the One China principle, and effectively restrain the actions of the relevant representatives, preventing them from interfering in China’s internal affairs.
