Mayor of Ljubljana: I would not have banned Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik from entering Slovenia

Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković said that he personally would not have banned Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik from entering Slovenia.

“That’s not right to me, I wouldn’t have done it. But I don’t interfere in the Government’s decision,” Janković said.

He emphasized that he would not prohibit Dodik from entering Slovenia, and announced that at the next meeting with him he would invite Dodik to lift the entry ban on Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar and Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon into Republika Srpska.

Dodik had introduced the entry ban for Slovenian politicians after Robert Golob’s government unanimously adopted a decision last week to prevent him from entering Slovenia.

“What is being done as a countermeasure leads to something I don’t like. Instead of cooperation, it leads to divisions. Where does this go?” Janković asked, recalling the war in the Balkans.

As a response to the Slovenian government’s decision, Dodik called on Serbs in Slovenia to vote for Janez Janša in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

“Mr. President, you support Janez Janša, I support Robert Golob. Can we go to lunch together? Of course we will,” Janković said, describing how the next meeting with Dodik might unfold.

The mayor of Ljubljana added: “Everyone has the right to their opinion, as long as it is respectful.”

Janković also noted that he met last Saturday with Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon. He told her that he disagreed with the adopted sanction against Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik.

At the same time, he asked whether, before adopting this decision, the government had checked how many Slovenian companies operate in BiH, how business is conducted there, and whether they face any problems.
