New Grad: “Rakani” Art Colony opens

An exhibition of paintings created at last year’s “Rakani” Art Colony was opened at the Gallery in New Grad. This marks the beginning of this year’s “Rakani” Art Colony, in which nine painters from Serbia and Republika Srpska are participating.

Jovana Stanchić from Kraljevo is participating for the first time in the “Rakani” Art Colony. Her first impressions are impressive.

“My impressions are very positive, and I’m thrilled with the city. I’m delighted with the accommodation and the hosts,” said Jovana Stanchić, a painter from Kraljevo.

Andrea Krnetić Grbić from Prijedor is participating in this art colony for the second time. The ambiance in Mlakhve, next to the Una River, she says, is the perfect inspiration.

“I was here about six years ago. Will Una inspire you in your creation? It definitely will, with nature, but I don’t know if it will be the animals from Una, or Una itself, or the surroundings of Una. We’ll see,” says Krnetić.

The “Rakani” Art Colony, which has been running for four decades, is one of the most significant cultural events in New Grad.

“We are truly proud because it has this pulse that speaks of a good working and creative atmosphere in Rakani. And I can say that this atmosphere has lasted for four decades. We are also very proud of the previous participants,” says Mirjana Drljača, Director of the Cultural and Educational Center of New Grad.

Over the next seven days, the artists will create their works in the settlement of Mlakhve, next to the Una River, enriching the collection of the Gallery in New Grad.
