The Serb member of the Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, says that by imposing his will and frustration, Christian Schmidt has led BiH into a great crisis, but Republika Srpska will surely come out of this even stronger.
She emphasized that she has full trust in the institutions of Republika Srpska and the importance of discussing the protection of these institutions in the National Assembly, as well as that the people, in accordance with democratic principles, should express their opinions.
“Christian Schmidt is the one who dragged all of BiH into uncertainty and legal insecurity, and absolutely disrupted the relations that should have been built here in a completely different way,” Cvijanović stated. She particularly criticized the fact that there is a judiciary that acts according to the will of an unelected individual, not according to what is written in the Constitution of the country.
“These are things that are unacceptable in a normal democratic society, but clearly, BiH, living its life as a protectorate, is now at this bad and crucial point,” Cvijanović added.
She believes in the institutions of Republika Srpska and in the correct response from the people: “Everything we do, we do because we have a mandate that came from the people, not from some foreign address or unelected foreigner,” Cvijanović said.
“What is important to me is that Republika Srpska will come out of this, and I am sure it will come out even stronger, standing behind the legitimate rights of our legitimately elected representatives and finally defending its will and its determination to live in freedom,” she added.
Since Schmidt’s arrival in BiH, tensions have been constantly multiplying, and the trust that was hard to build is now disappearing, says political analyst Bojan Bilbija. He says that the National Assembly must stand in defense of the institutions, and that the people, through a referendum, as the most democratic form of expression, should voice their opinion.
“This is self-evident, and that’s how it will be because the decisions made in Sarajevo are deeply unjust, undemocratic, they annul the people’s original will, contribute to raising additional tensions, and in the end, they undermine the foundation of peace in BiH, which is the Dayton Agreement. The National Assembly is the most authorized to prevent all of this, to adopt its stances and conclusions,” says political analyst Bojan Bilbija.
While awaiting debate in the republic parliament, the opposition PDP, with a message that they are against political and legal violence, reiterates their opposition to elections arising from a politically orchestrated, violent judicial process.
“We believe that no political organization should recognize contaminated, illegitimate elections resulting from the entire political farce of imposed laws, and everyone should think this way. On the other hand, we believe we should unite around the institution of the president,” said PDP president Draško Stanivuković.
Stanivuković also believes that a unified response from Republika Srpska is needed to the attacks from political Sarajevo, which is against its existence. He adds that if elections cannot be avoided, the response should come from a non-partisan, academic individual who would lead Republika Srpska to the next elections.
We have not heard the stance of the largest opposition party, as our calls went unanswered by the acting president of SDS, Jovica Radulović.
