In Mrkonjić Grad, the Cultural and Artistic Society “Petar the First Karađorđević” organized the traditional Ilindan Folklore Festival, featuring performances of song and dance by seven other folklore ensembles from Republika Srpska.
Mirjana Brešo, artistic director of the host society, stated that the Ilindan Folklore Festival has been held for 26 years as part of the municipality’s patron saint celebrations. This year’s edition gathered around 230 participants.
Tonight, the audience enjoyed traditional dances from Serbia and the Vranje region, while the host’s vocal group performed authentic folk songs.
The festival also featured members of the folklore section “Biseri Plive” from Jezero.
In addition to the host and the ensemble from Jezero, the festival included performances by the cultural and artistic societies “Vrelo” from Šipovo, “Ribnik” from Ribnik, “Serb Knights” from Banja Luka, “Petar Kočić” from Mrkonjić Grad, and the Serb Educational and Cultural Society “Prosvjeta” from Kneževo.
The Ilindan Folklore Festival, held at the Square of the Serb Army, is one of the events marking the municipal patron saint day—St. Elijah the Prophet—as well as the Day and Slava of the 11th Mrkonjić Light Infantry Brigade.
