Špirić: Schmidt has undermined Bosnia and Herzegovina’s financial sovereignty

Chairman of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nikola Špirić, stated today that Christian Schmidt’s latest imposed decision has endangered the financial sovereignty of the country.

“The more decisions Christian Schmidt imposes, the more Bosnia and Herzegovina falters. With this decision, he has directly undermined the country’s financial sovereignty. As for the position of the Central Bank of BiH—we don’t even have monetary sovereignty to begin with,” Špirić told reporters in Sarajevo.

He emphasized that any undermining of BiH’s sovereignty only distances the country further from the European Union.

“Those who are applauding these decisions—once they take the time to analyze them—will realize they’ve traded certainty for debt,” Špirić added.

As a reminder, this morning Christian Schmidt imposed a decision in the case of the Slovenian company Viadukt, mandating that funds be withdrawn from the single account—specifically from the portion belonging to Republika Srpska—and another decision requiring the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina to provide funds for new technologies in the election process.
