Serb member and Chairwoman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović, questioned when exactly the European Union began supporting interventions that go against its own self-declared principles.
Responding to SRNA’s request for comment on the EU’s statement—which claimed that the intervention by the so-called High Representative was necessary and represented the only remaining option to ensure the “functionality of key democratic institutions,” while also expressing strong support for preserving the integrity of the electoral process and citizens’ trust in “democratic procedures” in BiH—Cvijanović asked:
“How can we talk about democratic institutions and procedures if decisions are being imposed by an unelected foreigner?”
She emphasized that the EU’s stance is deeply disappointing and sends the wrong message to citizens.
“This is entirely disappointing, and it sends a bad message to the people—especially because in Bosnia and Herzegovina they are endorsing something that two-thirds of EU member states would never allow in their own countries,” Cvijanović stressed.
