Competitors from 12 countries take to the skies above Urije

The 29th Open Parachuting Championship “Prijedor Open” was officially closed this past weekend at Urije Airport. Once again, the event brought together top parachutists from Europe, Asia, and North America.

The competition, which is part of the East European Accuracy Cup and dates back to 1996 when it was first held under the name “Petrovdan Parachuting Cup,” now holds high-ranking status—just below world and continental championships—thanks to recognition from the World Air Sports Federation (FAI), which granted it Category Two status.

The director of this year’s event, Zoran Sredić, stated that the start of the championship was delayed due to dense fog and low cloud cover, but weather conditions later allowed for the first round of jumps to be held.

The competition had a strong international character—15 teams participated, with a total of 68 competitors from 12 countries across three continents. Among them were representatives from Canada and the Sultanate of Oman, giving the tournament a truly intercontinental dimension.

President of the Board of the Aero Club Prijedor and leader of the local team, Siniša Vujaković, emphasized that the first round was successfully completed and that the home team had taken the lead ahead of the teams from the Sultanate of Oman and “Szolnok” from Hungary. He noted that weather conditions remained challenging throughout the competition, and that instead of the planned eight jumps per team, it was more realistic to expect a minimum of four for the championship to be officially recognized.

Vujaković highlighted that “Prijedor Open” has long earned its status as a world-class event, with this year’s competition featuring particularly strong rivals—including three world champions and several European titleholders.
