Dodik: If we are pushed into a corner, we have the right to defend ourselves

“If anyone forces us and pushes us into a corner, trying to build law out of injustice, we have the obligation to defend ourselves,” said the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, speaking in Moscow in reference to the Appeals Chamber hearing scheduled for June 12 in the case concerning the President of Republika Srpska.

“We can observe several facts — this is the same court as in the first-instance proceedings. They boast about their system of judge selection, yet it’s impossible to follow how they select a Bosniak judge in the process. More important than all that is that Republika Srpska has rejected the legitimacy of the Court and the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH,” Dodik stated.

He added that the entire process is a textbook example of political persecution and that this campaign continues.

“There was also influence from the previous U.S. ambassador. We should clearly say that, even though Republika Srpska has rejected the authority of the Court and Prosecutor’s Office, they continue their work. But that will only lead to a point where everything will have to be resolved. I have no expectations — we can speculate, but if the Court upholds the previous decision, it will lead to a dramatic political situation. We will go before the institutions of Republika Srpska and adopt decisions that they will not like,” Dodik said.

He emphasized that if anyone forces the leadership of Republika Srpska and corners it, trying to build legality out of illegality, Republika Srpska has the right to defend itself.
