Memorial Academy – Jasenovac “The Earth Is Silent, the Silence Screams”

The Memorial Academy titled Jasenovac “The Earth Is Silent, the Silence Screams” was held today in Kozarska Dubica as part of the commemoration of the Day of Remembrance for the victims of genocide against Serbs, Jews, and Roma in the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), marking 80 years since the breakout of inmates from the Jasenovac concentration camp.

The Memorial Academy is organized by the Donja Gradina Memorial Site, in cooperation with the National Theatre of Republika Srpska, and under the patronage of President Milorad Dodik.

The event was attended by the Minister of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska Željka Stojičić, Minister of Administration and Local Self-Government Senka Jujić, the President’s envoy Jelena Pajić Baštinac, Assistant Minister for Culture Tanja Đaković, representatives of the Serbian Army, the Mayor of Kozarska Dubica Igor Savković, numerous municipal officials, clergy, and citizens.

The Memorial Academy began with the national anthems of Serbia and Republika Srpska, followed by a minute of silence in honor of all the innocent victims of the Jasenovac camp and its largest execution site, Donja Gradina.

The central commemoration of the Day of Remembrance for the victims of Ustaša genocide in the NDH will be held tomorrow, April 27, in Donja Gradina. The attendance of the highest officials from Republika Srpska and Serbia is expected, along with more than twenty thousand people.

It is important to recall that April 27 has been officially declared a Day of Mourning in Republika Srpska by the decision of the Government.
