Goganović meets Melicher: Crisis in BiH is political, not security-related

Deputy Minister of Defense in the Council of Ministers, Aleksandar Goganović, emphasized during a meeting with the First Deputy Minister of Defense of Slovakia, Igor Melicher, that there is no security crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but rather a political one, and that all problems can be resolved through sincere and open dialogue.

“During the meeting with Melicher, I expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral defense cooperation. I reiterated our commitment to EU membership and stressed the importance of the ‘Althea’ mission, as well as our support for cooperation with NATO. However, I made it clear that the Serb people do not support membership in the North Atlantic Alliance,” Goganović said in a statement to SRNA following the meeting.

Goganović emphasized that he conveyed to his counterpart the importance of all domestic and international actors respecting the Dayton Peace Agreement and ensuring that decisions in BiH are made in accordance with it—through the agreement of the two entities and the three constituent peoples.

“Considering the global situation, I expressed hope that the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump will bring peace to Ukraine,” Goganović added.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Defense in the Council of Ministers, Zukan Helez.

Following the meeting, Goganović hosted a dinner at a restaurant in East Sarajevo.
