Banjaluka on the verge of the finals in the race for “European Youth Capital”

Banjaluka is eagerly awaiting the results on whether it has entered the final round in the race for the title of European Youth Capital 2028, announced Danijela Kajkut, the authorized representative from the Department for Social Affairs, reminding that the results will be known on April 2.

“We worked actively on preparing the application, thanks to which the City of Banjaluka is now among 12 cities from 11 European countries competing for the title of European Youth Capital 2028. The true value of this candidacy lies in the promotion of Banjaluka—its natural beauty, as well as the many infrastructure projects that have enriched and enhanced the city’s offerings. Through the promotion we achieve by applying, we manage to attract more young people to visit Banjaluka and learn about the possibilities this city has to offer,” Kajkut emphasized.

As she explained, by entering the final round, Banjaluka would be one step closer to gaining access to certain European funds that could be used for important youth-related projects—such as equipping a youth resource center and enhancing existing support programs implemented by the City of Banjaluka.

“We can truly be proud that the European Youth Forum has recognized Banjaluka as a city with the potential to bear this prestigious title. The city administration, led by Mayor Stanivuković, is dedicated to creating youth policies aimed at building an environment where young people will gladly stay, create, and contribute to their community and society as a whole. We have also been actively working on improving public spaces intended for youth, such as the Youth Center. If we were to be awarded the title European Youth Capital, we could further strengthen and expand all our programs—which is why we hope to enter the final round,” Kajkut concluded.

It is worth noting that, thanks to the active efforts of the Department for Social Affairs—together with the NGO “Perpetuum mobile – Institute for Youth and Community Development”—the European Youth Forum accepted the candidacy of the largest city in Republika Srpska in the competition for the European Youth Capital 2028.
