Members of the Serb-American Political Action Committee have sent an open letter to U.S. President Donald Trump, expressing their concerns about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly regarding politically motivated trials against the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, and other officials of Srpska.
The letter they sent to Trump reads as follows:
We, the members of the Serb-American PAC, who proudly supported your campaign, are writing to urgently draw your attention to the crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing its most severe turmoil since 1995 due to Christian Schmidt, an unelected foreign official who falsely assumed the role of High Representative without the approval of the UN Security Council. Schmidt has illegally imposed laws, violating the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In July 2023, he enacted a criminal law threatening to imprison officials who refuse to comply, leading to politically motivated prosecutions against the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, by institutions unlawfully created by previous High Representatives.
In response, the National Assembly of Republika Srpska passed a law banning these unconstitutional institutions, reaffirming its commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s legal framework. Srpska has not seceded and seeks only its rights guaranteed by Dayton, yet it faces constant attacks from foreign and domestic actors undermining its autonomy.
Additionally, Serbs in Sarajevo have been targeted, and radical Islamist groups, including the anti-Dayton movement, have fueled tensions with hostile demonstrations. Some officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina have even threatened military action against Srpska—an illegal and reckless move that endangers regional stability. Despite these provocations, Srpska remains committed to peaceful dialogue in accordance with Dayton.
We are also concerned that recent statements by certain government representatives reflect the rhetoric of former U.S. President Joseph Biden’s administration rather than your vision for America. We hope you have noticed the strong support of the Serb-American community, as well as Serbia and Republika Srpska, during the 2024 campaign. We remain loyal to you and support our shared commitment to Christian conservative values.
We urge you to acknowledge the reality in Bosnia and Herzegovina and advocate for a fair resolution that upholds its constitutional order. Your leadership is crucial to ensuring fairness and stability in the region.
The Serb-American PAC, a loyal supporter of President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign, has also expressed deep concern over recent statements made by certain government representatives.
“These statements reflect positions that do not align with the vision articulated by President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance,” they stated.
Furthermore, they emphasized that the trial against the President of Srpska resembles the politically motivated trials that have targeted President Trump, his family, and his associates.
“While we understand that the administration is undergoing a transition and that time is needed to ensure alignment within government ranks, we appeal for immediate attention to these international issues. Our loyalty to Trump’s vision compels us to seek a solution consistent with American principles of justice and fair governance,” they concluded.
