The Kremlin comments on Dodik’s verdict

The Kremlin has condemned the verdict of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina against Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, warning that it could have a negative impact on the Balkans as a whole and further destabilize the region, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated today.

He emphasized that Dodik’s prosecution is politically motivated, according to RIA Novosti.

  • “We consider the prosecution of Dodik to be purely political in nature. It is directed not only against Dodik personally but also against all Serb patriotic forces,” Peskov said.

He added that Russia highly values the constructive and trusting relationship between Dodik and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as the brotherly ties between Russians and Serbs.

Yesterday, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a first-instance verdict, finding Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik guilty of “failing to implement the decisions” of Christian Schmidt and sentencing him to one year in prison along with a six-year ban from holding political office.
