Holocaust researcher Gideon Grajf has stated that the verdict issued by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) against the president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, is illegitimate and must be overturned.
Commenting on the Court of BiH’s decision to sentence Dodik to one year in prison and ban him from holding office for six years after the verdict becomes final, Grajf—who previously chaired the Independent International Commission for the Investigation of the Suffering of All Peoples in the Srebrenica Region from 1992 to 1995—described the ruling as a severe and problematic decision.
- “It is severe because it targets a man who has fought for coexistence and dedicated his life to defending the rights of his people and preserving the Dayton-Paris Peace Agreement.”
He emphasized that the verdict should be reviewed and ultimately overturned.
- “I believe the verdict against Dodik is illegitimate, and it comes at a very inconvenient time—when calls for coexistence and the preservation of BiH are being made, yet the president of an entity is being treated in this way.”
The Court of BiH yesterday found Milorad Dodik guilty in the first-instance verdict for ‘failing to implement decisions’ issued by Christian Schmidt, sentencing him to one year in prison and banning him from holding office for six years after the ruling becomes final.
