“Belgrade Victor” awarded to Sanja Savić Milosavljević for the novel Martin’s Share

The “Belgrade Victor” award for the best novel published in 2024 has been presented to Sanja Savić Milosavljević for her novel Martin’s Share, which focuses on the fate of Serbs from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, spanning from the mid-20th century to the present day.

The jury president, Predrag Petrović, stated that the decision was unanimous, highlighting the novel’s distinctive and nuanced language as well as its masterfully crafted structure.

The shortlist also included A Bird Flies Along a Sharp Knife’s Edge by Banja Luka author Tanja Stupar Trifunović, The Flogging by Jovica Aćin, Now I Wander Dead Through the World by Borivoje Gerzić, and Ballads of Terrifying Harmony by Aleksandar Šurbatović.

Milosavljević was also a finalist for the “Belgrade Victor” in 2022 with her novel Teferič na Slaviji.

Born in 1988 in Sarajevo, Sanja Savić Milosavljević is a Serbian director, novelist, playwright, and an assistant professor at the Department of General Literature and Theater Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy in Pale.

The “Belgrade Victor” award was established in 2021, with past recipients including Goran Petrović, Drago Kekanović, and Vladan Matijević.
