The Deputy Chair of the Council of Ministers, Staša Košarac, stated that a stunned silence has fallen over Sarajevo following the decision by the new U.S. President Donald Trump to halt, or temporarily suspend, American aid sent to countries worldwide.
“After Trump’s decision, silence in Sarajevo. No more funds for ‘aid,’ which has been used to ‘destabilize global peace by promoting ideas in foreign countries that directly contradict harmony and stable relations within and between nations,'” Košarac wrote on Instagram.
Košarac pointed out that, according to available information, the U.S. sent $39 million in foreign aid to Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2024, compared to $93.7 million the previous year.
“It was spent in Sarajevo,” Košarac added.
President Donald Trump, who officially took office yesterday, signed an executive order temporarily suspending all U.S. foreign aid programs for 90 days.
The White House announced that during this period, a review will be conducted to determine whether the aid aligns with the political goals of the new administration.
