Professor of International Relations at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Banja Luka, Željko Budimir, stated that the world is eagerly anticipating the new administration in the White House and the arrival of President-elect Donald Trump, who is widely expected to bring significant changes to U.S. policy. One of the key developments, he noted, will be removing Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) from the focus of American interventionism.
“The most important change will be leaving BiH outside the orbit and focus of U.S. interventionism, which had persisted under the remnants of Bill Clinton’s administration, particularly through the work of diplomats in BiH, notably Ambassador Michael Murphy, who were the main proponents of the fight against Republika Srpska and the ideology of unitarism in BiH,” Budimir told Srna.
He recalled that the previous U.S. administration, led by Joseph Biden, was a primary sponsor of instability in BiH and played a central role in imposing solutions that complicated political relations in the country.
According to Budimir, Trump’s administration will return to a “realpolitik” approach, forcing the U.S. to align its policies with the shifting structure of power in international relations.
“You cannot pursue a policy rooted in neoliberal ideology and American hegemonism at a time when balance of power and competition among great powers are returning to the forefront of international politics,” said Budimir, who is also the Minister for Scientific and Technological Development and Higher Education of Republika Srpska.
Budimir believes that Trump understands this well and that this change will be evident in relations with Europe and Eurasia, particularly with the nations of East Asia, which are becoming key economic and political competitors to the U.S.
The inauguration of the new U.S. president is scheduled for today at 6:00 PM Central European Time.
President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he will overturn all of the “stupid and radical” executive orders issued by outgoing President Joseph Biden.
