Banja Luka adorned with flags of Republika Srpska and Serbia

Banja Luka is decorated with the flags of Republika Srpska and Serbia in celebration of January 9—Republika Srpska Day.

Flags have been displayed along the city’s main roads, squares, institutions, and residential buildings.

Republika Srpska celebrates 33 years of existence this year under the slogan “Born for Eternity.”

January 9 is observed as Republika Srpska Day, marking the date in 1992 when it was established under the initial name Serb Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

It was founded by Serb deputies in the then Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina after they were outvoted on key issues regarding the survival of Yugoslavia. Representatives of the other two ethnic groups proceeded with secession against the will of the Serbs, who held the status of a constituent people.
