Kojić: The crime against Serbs in Kravica bears elements of genocide

The crime committed against the Serb population in the Bratunac village of Kravica on Christmas Day in 1993 bears elements of genocide, as its aim was to erase this place and its Serb inhabitants from the face of the earth, said Branimir Kojić, President of the Municipal Organization of Families of Captured and Fallen Soldiers and Missing Civilians of Srebrenica.

  • We ask the Court and the Prosecutor’s Office why no one has been held accountable for this genocidal attack on Kravica. Are they aware that the graves of prominent Serbs who were killed just before Christmas were dug up, their bodies further desecrated, and left to animals to be mutilated? – Kojić stated.

He explained that Muslim forces, led by Naser Orić, attacked Kravica just 20 days after committing crimes against Serbs in the village of Bjelovac.

  • Nearly 3,000 Muslims marched toward the symbol of Serb identity in this area with only one goal—to wipe Kravica off the face of the earth and destroy the bastion of Serbian heritage. On Christmas Day in 1993, 49 Serbs, mostly civilians celebrating the birth of Christ at their tables, were brutally killed – Kojić recalled.

He stated that Orić’s forces killed 186 Serbs in the Serb villages of Bjelovac, Kravica, and Skelani over a span of one month—an atrocity that, according to Kojić, has not been enough for the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to bring the perpetrators to justice.

  • According to Muslim witnesses, Kravica burned for 15 days after the bloody carnage on Christmas. It was looted and destroyed, demonstrating the intent behind these actions – Kojić said.

He highlighted the testimony of the late Fadila Mujić, who openly described looting Serbian property and invading ancestral Serb homes.

  • And what can be said about the testimony of Vehid Dedić, who boasted about storming Kravica as a member of the ‘El Mujahid’ unit? He claimed Kravica was ‘taken with heart’ and stated that he was ready to kill anyone bearing a Serb name—even a child weighing just three kilograms – Kojić stressed.

Kojić expressed pain over the fact that Dedić remains free to this day, has even served as a high-ranking official in the Bratunac Municipal Assembly, and meets with U.S. Ambassador Michael Murphy—a situation that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s judiciary considers normal.

  • We are also deeply hurt by the fact that in the Srebrenica parliament sits one Suljo Čakanović, known to have participated in the attack on Kravica. He was even photographed beside Orić, who triumphantly rode his horse after leaving 101 Serb children without one or both parents – Kojić said.
