The arrogance, impudence, and recklessness of the unfortunate Christian Šmit and his tutor Michael Murphy have crossed all boundaries, showing their complete hatred toward Republika Srpska and everything Serb, assessed constitutional law professor Siniša Karan.
Commenting on the order by German citizen Šmit, which “declares forbidden and punishable by law” any attempt to implement the “dangerous elements” of the conclusions adopted by the National Assembly of Republika Srpska on December 24 and 25—with support from the U.S. Embassy—Karan stated for Srna that this unserious and hastily written act is merely an attempt to demonstrate power and show “they are the owners of this feudal state called BiH.”
“This absurdity and hypocrisy are evidenced by the fact that an ordinary foreign citizen, illegally residing in BiH against all laws, dared to manipulate decisions of the highest legislative body in Republika Srpska—the National Assembly,” emphasized professor Karan.
Reminding that not only is Šmit’s presence in BiH illegal, Karan pointed out that his existence, movements, and actions in BiH have been absolutely unlawful from day one.
“Šmit embodies the denial of everything that defines a state, democracy, sovereignty, and freedom. He harbors a sick ambition to act as the supreme chief and protector in a country he is tearing apart. This usurper not only violates the Dayton Agreement but also undermines the coexistence achieved by the three constituent peoples of BiH,” Karan stressed.
He added that Šmit’s intent is now completely exposed—to destroy Republika Srpska and its institutions without restraint.
By undermining Republika Srpska, Karan warned, Šmit is directly dismantling BiH’s federal structure as a state community of two equal entities and three constituent peoples, aiming to create a unitary civic state where Bosniaks would dominate, leaving Serbs and Croats with only a cosmetic role.
“Their twisted, malicious, and spiteful motives are evident in their refusal to leave us in peace even in the days leading up to the great Orthodox holiday, Christmas. Instead, they continue flaunting their supposed authority,” said Karan.
He declared, “Enough is enough! Everyone in BiH must realize that the actions of Murphy and Šmit bring no gains—only losses. Their efforts are driving BiH and its three constituent peoples back into instability. That is their goal, but we who live here must be aware of where their actions are leading us.”
“We cannot allow these foreign meddlers to drag us back to the 1990s for their interests. This is the 21st century, and 2025. It’s time they let us live like the rest of the civilized world,” Karan concluded.
Professor Karan emphasized that academic, scientific, and constitutional-legal discussions held by Republika Srpska’s institutions evidently do not reach Šmit because he cannot comprehend them. Therefore, this response had to be personal and sharp, as that is the only language Šmit understands.
“His behavior and the actions of the U.S. Embassy in BiH are purely personal and arrogant, aimed at leaving this troubled country in ruins before their departure,” concluded Karan.
