The number of people interested in visiting Han Pijesak is increasing, as confirmed by the growing number of tourists from Belgrade, Novi Sad, Bijeljina, and Brčko who are looking to build vacation homes in this mountainous area, according to the municipal Tourist Organization.
Acting director of the Tourist Organization, Svjetlana Tomović, emphasized that Han Pijesak has become increasingly attractive to tourists, thanks to its designation as an air spa by the Government of Republika Srpska and the opening of the Ski Center “Igrišta.”
Touristic gems of the municipality
One of the most important tourist gems of Han Pijesak is the residence of King Alexander Karađorđević, built in 1921, and the only royal residence in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The residence was restored after a fire in 2005, and its reconstruction is ongoing to transform the building into a facility with both cultural-historical and commercial functions, including a museum, wine cellar, and conference hall.
Near the village of Pjenovac lies the medieval town of Pošijak, built in the 11th or 12th century. Located on steep slopes, it stands as a significant example of old architecture, accompanied by an Orthodox necropolis with medieval tombstones nearby.
Natural resources and activities
Han Pijesak offers numerous opportunities for hiking and cycling through dense forests and vast meadows, with trails leading to scenic viewpoints.
Its rich flora and fauna, including rare plant species, game, medicinal herbs, and mushrooms, add further value for nature enthusiasts.
Tourism promotion and events
The Tourist Organization of Han Pijesak was established on November 21 last year and has already participated in numerous fairs, promoting the natural beauty and potential of the area.
Events such as the Gastro-Tourist Goulash Festival have been organized, and a brochure featuring hiking and cycling trails, as well as accommodation options, has been published.
The next presentation of Han Pijesak is planned at a fair in Belgrade from February 20 to 23 next year.
