The significant participation of Republika Srpska at the BRICS Summit

The BRICS Summit held in Kazan was of great importance, highlighted by the participation of 32 countries, 36 representatives, and the presence of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, which added legitimacy to the event, stated Matej Aleksić, President of the Student Organization of the Faculty of Political Sciences.

“It is crucial for Republika Srpska to be present among such global powers as China, India, and the Russian Federation. Republika Srpska must seek its place on the international stage, considering the complex nature of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the lack of a unified foreign policy,” added Aleksić.

He emphasized that Srpska must actively seek allies on the international stage.

“BRICS has no intention of leaving global institutions, whether financial or political. Instead, it advocates for their reform. They don’t aim to abandon these institutions. This stance causes significant concern in the West, though this is downplayed in the media, which often seeks to belittle the summit,” noted Srđan Radanović, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Political Sciences.

The BRICS Summit took place in Kazan from October 22 to 24, with Republika Srpska participating as an observer. President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, attended the summit, meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and engaging in discussions with numerous delegations.

Currently, the BRICS group comprises 10 countries: Russia, China, India, Brazil, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Several other nations have also expressed interest in joining this influential bloc.
