The President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Nenad Stevandić, stated that not only does he expect an acquittal for the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, but that such a verdict will also reveal the illegitimacy of Christian Schmidt’s appointment and the imposition of sanctions on Srpska officials.
- “They have realized that there is no chance of removing Dodik because no one can evict or prevent him from performing his duties as the President of Republika Srpska,” emphasized Stevandić.
He pointed out that Dodik was elected by the people, noting that no one has ever received as many votes for any position as Dodik, who enjoys the highest possible legitimacy.
- “Christian Schmidt lacked the strength and courage to dismiss him under the Bonn powers, so he devised an alternative whereby those who do not follow his decisions should be sent to prison. This is, first and foremost, unconstitutional,” Stevandić said.
He added that it is highly telling that the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina did not allow him to testify in the trial against President Dodik, even though, as Speaker of the National Assembly, he had sent laws to Dodik for signature.
Stevandić expressed confidence that the court already regrets allowing the testimony of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, Siniša Karan.
“They surely regret letting Karan testify because they received heavy blows from his statements,” Stevandić said.
According to him, it is a disgrace for the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to conduct a trial of this nature against the President of Republika Srpska.
- “Two decades ago, a decision by High Representative Carlos Westendorp was enough to dismiss the President of Republika Srpska, Nikola Poplašen. At the time, the international community was all-powerful, and we were not strong enough to resist. Today, the situation is far more favorable for Srpska,” Stevandić stated in an SRNA podcast.
He emphasized that international relations have significantly shifted and that Republika Srpska has broken barriers, ensuring its voice is heard globally.
- “In the Bundestag, there is an ongoing process against Christian Schmidt initiated by my advisor Dragan Dakić, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law in Kragujevac. Everyone was compelled to give statements. Even German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, when asked whether Christian Schmidt was a diplomat for the UN or Germany, replied that for her, the opinion of the Peace Implementation Council suffices,” said Stevandić.
He pointed out that the council is an informal group that is neither registered nor governed by rules, lacks a headquarters, and is not a legal institution.
The President of the National Assembly noted that the arbitrary actions of individuals without legitimacy have been addressed in international organizations, with representatives of many countries informed about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
- “We were sanctioned because we are democrats who act according to the will of the people who elected us, not according to the directives of Washington, Brussels, or any other European city,” Stevandić stated.
He reminded that Republika Srpska was defended with great sacrifices and stands above any individual fate.
- “It is not only our political will but also our survival,” concluded Stevandić.
