Former Deputy Speaker of the Russian State Duma and academic Sergei Baburin stated that Western countries, through aggressive policies, aim to abolish Republika Srpska, asserting that the only solution is its international recognition and separation from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Baburin emphasized that Russia treats Republika Srpska as a state.
“When the Dayton Peace Agreement was signed, I said it was a project aimed at assimilating the Serbs. While this agreement ended the war, the current model provokes new conflicts. Republika Srpska is not to blame for this, but rather the aggressive policies of Western countries trying to abolish it,” Baburin told Glas Srpske.
He affirmed that Russia will protect Republika Srpska and values its principled political stances, recognizing the significant Western pressure it faces as a result.
“We will protect it. This approach guarantees success. History has repeatedly shown that dishonest manipulators cannot prevail,” Baburin stated.
Baburin also expressed support for Republika Srpska achieving full membership in BRICS, which he believes would benefit both Republika Srpska and the organization.
“Republika Srpska belongs in this organization. Distance is irrelevant when it comes to successful cooperation,” he remarked.
Baburin said he was pleased to observe the strong national potential in Republika Srpska, a positive energy grounded in Orthodox Christian values.
“This ensures the survival of the Serb people. It bothers Western countries because they see this as the greatest obstacle to their plans to further fragment and divide you, and ultimately erase your identity,” Baburin said.
He described the president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, as a leader of pan-Slavic nations.
“When defending the positions and interests of Republika Srpska, and consequently the Serb people, Dodik also protects all those worldwide who advocate for traditional values. That is why he is disliked by the West, particularly due to his open political support for President Vladimir Putin,” Baburin noted.
Commenting on Washington’s decision to allow Kyiv to use long-range missiles deep into Russian territory, Baburin stated that this move aims to provoke Moscow. However, he emphasized that they underestimate Putin, noting, “Putin is not Boris Yeltsin, and this new Russia will not fail to provide an adequate response to these threats.”
He described this as a kind of “bomb” left by outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden to hinder the incoming president, Donald Trump, with the goal of undermining any plans or attempts to resolve the conflict through a peace agreement.
