The election victory of Donald Trump in the U.S. brings renewed hope that Bosnia and Herzegovina will be left in peace, without foreign policy interference from U.S. ambassadors in our internal matters, stated international relations professor Željko Budimir.
He expressed hope that the generation that served under Bill Clinton will gradually retire, making way for a new generation with whom constructive dialogue about Bosnia and Herzegovina can take place.
“We have had issues with a particular ideology, the same ideology that Trump has confronted. This ideology, which has clashed with Dodik, has attempted twice to assassinate Trump. He escaped attacks orchestrated by the same individuals who pressure us. It’s an ideology willing to trigger a third world war,” Budimir said.
He emphasized that the primary expectation of Srpska, its government, and the Serb people is for the U.S. to cease treating Republika Srpska as an adversary.
“What does this mean in terms of relations with ambassadors? We expect an envoy who will respect Bosnia and Herzegovina’s constitutional framework. Today, the website of the U.S. Embassy operates as a platform against the president of Republika Srpska. Such changes are critical,” Budimir explained.
