The Israeli Embassy in BiH organized a commemoration today in East Sarajevo for the victims of the massacre committed by the Palestinian movement Hamas on October 7 of last year, when they invaded Israeli territory. The event featured the film “Scream Before Silence” and an exhibition of photographs by Israeli photographer Ziv Koren.
Non-resident Israeli Ambassador to BiH and Albania, Galit Peleg, stated that the film presents testimonies from women who were victims of this attack, adding that what happened to Israel on October 7 of the previous year is unprecedented.
“This massacre was followed by an immediate war on multiple fronts. From the documents confiscated by our security forces, we see that Hamas’s plan was to carry out many atrocities, just like Hezbollah from the north, from Lebanon,” Peleg told reporters in East Sarajevo.
According to her, the strongest message of the film is that there are people who remember the women who did not survive.
“After October 7, Israel reached out to the International Women’s Organization, including UN Women and other NGOs, and in many cases, people did not believe them at first,” Peleg noted, emphasizing the important role of the international community in such situations.
Commenting on the cancellation of this commemoration in Sarajevo for alleged security reasons, Peleg stated that some politicians exploited the tragedy for their political interests.
“For me, it was important to come here despite the challenges, because this is above political interests,” Peleg emphasized, adding that today’s commemoration was for the victims and was not directed against anyone.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas attacked Israel from the Gaza Strip, infiltrating border areas and killing over 1,110 Israelis—both military and civilian—while taking several hundred hostages.
Israel then initiated military operations in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of approximately 42,000 Palestinians, with 1.9 million of the 2.3 million residents of Gaza displaced.
