The Minister for Scientific and Technological Development and Higher Education of Republika Srpska, Željko Budimir, stated that Republika Srpska has a small scientific community and its potential in scientific research is underutilized. He emphasized that the “Modern Materials 2024” conference will highlight areas that need particular development, especially in natural and technical sciences.
Budimir assessed that the situation in technical sciences in Republika Srpska is positive, with a sufficient number of scientists, which enables the formation of institutes.
“The plan is to establish several research centers and institutes in the coming period, which will contribute to the development of various scientific fields,” Budimir told reporters before the start of the international scientific conference “Modern Materials 2024.”
He also noted that this conference will foster the exchange of experiences with other countries, with the aim of applying certain solutions to implement projects planned for the future, such as the opening of a science and technology park, the adoption of an innovation law, and the establishment of a science fund.
The Vice President of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Republika Srpska, Dragoljub Mirjanić, said that the significance of the conference is reflected in the fact that 11 plenary lectures and 79 poster presentations by authors from 14 countries will be presented.
“This is the 17th conference, and to date, we have presented a total of 1,517 papers, with more than 3,000 citations, representing the highest visibility for our academy,” Mirjanić stated.
He also mentioned that the focus of the papers to be presented at the conference is on biomaterials, which are used in biomedicine and biotechnology.
The Director of the Science Fund of Serbia, Nenad Filipović, emphasized the importance of this conference, where papers on modern materials applicable in various fields will be presented.
“Investing in the development of science is extremely important, and I am proud that this fund has an annual budget of more than 30 million euros, within which we allocate significant funds for young researchers. Our goal is also to expand cooperation with Republika Srpska in the field of scientific research,” Filipović said.
