It is alarming that terrorism has returned to Europe in full force, with the intention of being present in the Balkans as well, said Predrag Ćeranić, Dean of the Faculty of Security Sciences at the University of Banja Luka, in an interview with RTRS.
Ćeranić noted that this is a reflection of global events, emphasizing that political motivation is a fundamental element of terrorist attacks.
He added that while there hasn’t been a recorded terrorist attack in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the past ten years, much has been done to maintain a good security situation in the country.
What is concerning, according to Ćeranić, is the possibility that, due to certain geopolitical interests, a directive or even the executor of a terrorist attack could be sent to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“There is potential for terrorism in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but it is in no one’s interest here to see a terrorist attack. However, not everything is in the hands of the people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are global centers that find it advantageous to orchestrate a terrorist attack to achieve political goals. Some aim to create a caliphate, while others may want to pressure Russia to abandon its operations in Ukraine, so there is reason for concern,” Ćeranić stated.
