Language is what keeps the Serb people united; it is both their homeland and all their wealth, stated the writer Matija Bećković.
Bećković emphasized that Petar Kočić remained connected to Zmijanje, finding in it an entire world.
“He wrote about what he knew best, while today, people write based on speculation,” Bećković remarked.
He further noted that literature is making a comeback in a certain way, highlighting the growing popularity of memoirs and autobiographies. “People have grown weary of fabricated stories, and now a phenomenon has emerged that I believe literary science should explore. I know some individuals, not to say writers, who were barely literate when writing about real events, but when they started inventing stories, not only did they become articulate, but also literate,” Bećković observed.
It is worth recalling that last night, during a formal ceremony, the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, presented Matija Bećković with the Kočić Award, after which Bećković delivered a speech dedicated to Petar Kočić.
