The President of the National Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, stated during her visit to Berlin, speaking about the Declaration adopted at the All-Serb Assembly, that it is not often heard in Germany that Republika Srpska is a signatory of the Dayton Peace Agreement, that it always stands by this agreement, and that it demands its full respect.

Brnabić emphasized that it is necessary to explain that the Declaration adopted at the All-Serb Assembly primarily calls for peace, stability, and respect for all the victims of the wars in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

  • “And it is a Declaration that calls for the respect of the Dayton Peace Agreement. The Dayton Peace Agreement speaks of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a country with two entities – the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska, and three constituent peoples, and a Presidency consisting of three members who must consult on all issues of BiH’s foreign policy,” said Brnabić.

Pointing out that Republika Srpska demands full respect for the Dayton Peace Agreement, Brnabić said that this is precisely what is not often heard in Germany and that such meetings are necessary.

  • “To open all these topics without any fear and hesitation from difficult subjects, to lay all the cards on the table and explain. Serbia has nothing to hide. Serbia should be proud of everything we have done. In the end, for regional peace, stability, and connectivity. So, I have tried to emphasize these aspects,” Brnabić said.

She mentioned that in the past 48 hours, she had very open conversations with representatives of the authorities in Berlin and that it is very important for Serbia to have continuous communication with Germany.

Brnabić noted that at all meetings in Berlin, she only heard Germany’s clear position that the Community of Serbian Municipalities (ZSO) must be formed.

  • “Germany’s position is that the Brussels Agreement must be implemented, that there has been enough delay, and that the ZSO must always be first on the agenda. I hope this will be shown in practice in the foreseeable future, even though it has been delayed for more than 11 years,” Brnabić said to reporters in Berlin.

She specified that they discussed Serbia’s European integration, the enlargement agenda, priorities in the parliament’s work in terms of reforms in the rule of law, implementation of ODIHR recommendations for better electoral conditions, dialogue with the opposition, but also the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the All-Serbian Assembly, and the Declaration adopted by the two governments, the situation in the region, and whether it is possible for Serbia, as the largest country in the region, to further influence peace, stability, and better connectivity.

She noted that the hosts were interested in why Serbia has not imposed and whether it will impose sanctions on Russia, Serbia’s relationship with Russia, its relationship with Ukraine, as well as the dialogue with Pristina.

Brnabić is leading a parliamentary delegation on a two-day visit to Germany.
