The Ivo Andrić Grand Prize will be traditionally awarded on Vidovdan, June 28 (14:00), at the Andrić Institute, as announced by the organizers. The recipients are writer Abdulrazak Gurnah and poet Saša Radojčić.
Gurnah, a Nobel laureate, explores the complexities of identity and migration in his works, while Radojčić is a noted Serb poet and essayist renowned for his deep lyrical intuition and philosophical contemplations, as stated by the Kustendorf festival.
Following the award ceremony, an exhibition of painter Slavko Krunic’s works, which “abound with rich color and deep emotional charge, conveying complex narratives and life stories to the viewer,” will be opened in the Petar Lubarda gallery.
- The exhibition of Krunic’s works in Višegrad offers a rare opportunity for the audience to enjoy pieces that have won acclaim in prestigious galleries worldwide, as noted by Kustendorf.
The exhibition will be complemented by a performance from the Amoroso duo, consisting of artists from the Music Academy of the University of East Sarajevo, Vehbija Hodžić and Senka Slipac, who will perform pieces of classical and film music. As the final event of the celebration, a theater play “Book about Milutin – Part One” by Zvezdara Theatre, directed by Egon Savin, will be staged at the Doli Bel cinema (19:00), as announced.
As mentioned, the play, based on the novel of the same name by Danko Popović, delivers a powerful anti-war message through the life story of Milutin Ostojić, masterfully portrayed by Nenad Jezdić.
- The play succeeds in conveying all layers and complexities of the life of an ordinary Serb peasant through simple scenography and strong dramatic expression, reflecting on the futility of war and life’s values, as announced by Kustendorf.
