Mechanisms of Republika Srpska and BiH for Trgovska Gora

Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina are utilizing various mechanisms to address the issue of Croatia’s plan to dispose of radioactive and nuclear waste at the Trgovska Gora site near the border with BiH. Bojan Vipotnik, the Minister for Spatial Planning, Construction and Ecology of Republika Srpska, emphasized that Republika Srpska and BiH will use arguments and facts to compel Croatia to definitively abandon its plans.

Vipotnik highlighted that Croatia is not respecting its own laws and legal frameworks, as Čerkezovac is not designated for such purposes and does not meet any required parameters. He mentioned that ongoing research in Republika Srpska will help provide additional arguments to ensure a successful fight against the disposal site. These efforts include both field and scientific studies that could identify potential sociological, economic, and security threats.

Collaboration with the academic community is being sought to find the best formats to conduct such research, and a new project regarding the dangers of disposing of radioactive waste will soon be presented in Banjalica.

Vipotnik also recalled that the Ministry for Spatial Planning, Construction and Ecology of Republika Srpska signed a memorandum of cooperation with Serbia in Kragujevac, which he says will assist in addressing Croatia’s intentions. Croatia is expected to complete its environmental impact study by the end of the year.
