Advisor to the President of Republika Srpska, Ana Trišić Babić, stated that the consideration of the Srebrenica resolution in the UN General Assembly represents the twilight of UN procedures, as it is a document not agreed upon in the BiH Presidency.
Trišić Babić reminded that all UN bodies were informed that the document was independently initiated by the Bosniak part of the BiH Mission to the UN, without a decision from the BiH Presidency, noting that the Serb member of the Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, sent a letter and that the Serbian Mission also responded.
“The UN Security Council is based on consensus, but this time there is no consensus because Serbia, Russia, and China have stated that they do not support it. Therefore, it was moved to a simple majority vote in the General Assembly,” Trišić Babić said, adding that the principle of consensus, which is crucial for the UN and the entire world, is clearly being ignored this time.
She emphasized that the adoption of the resolution would have negative implications for Republika Srpska and Serbia and that, after the initiation of this proposal, reconciliation and coexistence in BiH would be impossible.
Trišić Babić stated that a diplomatic war is underway due to the redefinition of the term genocide.
“Furthermore, if the Srebrenica resolution is adopted, $600,000 from the regular UN budget will be available to implement the points of that resolution,” she noted.
