Chinese Ambassador to the UN Security Council, Geng Shuang, stated today that the proposed resolution on Srebrenica is not in line with the rhetoric of maintaining peace and stability in the region.
“China calls on the sponsors of the resolution to resolve this issue through consensus. We support the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina and will continue to build friendly relations with the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina.,” Shuang said at the Security Council meeting regarding the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
He emphasized that decisions about BiH should be made by representatives of its three constituent peoples.
Shuang noted that BiH faces challenges and that the reconciliation process encounters difficulties due to rhetoric that raises tensions.
Shuang highlighted the need to work on preserving peace and closely monitor the situation in BiH.
“It is important to have a balanced approach towards all sides in BiH. Unilateral sanctions and interference in internal matters are not beneficial,” he said.
The Chinese ambassador expressed concern about the selection of Christian Schmidt and the use of “Bonn Powers,” adding that the functioning of the Presidency of BiH has been disrupted.
