The President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, expressed condolences on the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day.

“On the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day, Yom HaShoah, which is the Israeli day of commemoration for the six million Jews killed by Nazi Germany and its collaborators during the Holocaust, as well as for Jewish resistance during that period, to Israeli President Isaac Herz and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, I express sincere and deepest condolences, respect, and sympathy,” wrote the President of Srpska on the “X” social network.

Dodik emphasized that the innocent victims of the Holocaust, as well as the heroes of Israel, must never be forgotten.

“When I had the opportunity to visit the Mountain of Remembrance and the Memorial Center for the Martyrs and Heroes of the Holocaust, I felt the sacred energy that permeates everyone regardless of origin. Because being in the vicinity of places of immeasurable sadness, eternal lamentation, and pain reaching to the heavens requires strength and special reverence for millions of innocent people, women, and children. A million questions ‘why’ surface, and each one remains unanswered. I also visited Auschwitz,” Dodik stated.

Dodik states that the Holocaust is the most horrific stain on Europe’s face, which we must forever remember with respect but also thwart any attempt to revive evil forces, wherever and against whomever.

“Only in this way will our memory be complete, and our struggle meaningful and noble. Unfortunately, we see reflections of our suffering through the sufferings of your people, in many aspects and on many levels. In physical and emotional sufferings accompanied by the genocide of nearly two million Serbs in the 20th century and nearly 30,000 in the Bosnian civil war from 1992 to 1995. Throughout the region of the western Balkans, we suffered together, in concentration camps, in our homes, on the streets of cities where we lived and worked,” Dodik said.

The President of Srpska called on citizens to attend the commemoration to be held on May 12, 2024, in Donja Gradina.

“On that day, Republika Srpska will pay tribute to the souls of shared suffering and the execution of 700,000 Serbs, as well as Jews and Roma, in the Jasenovac concentration camp,” Dodik concluded.
