The Srebrenica Resolution, which is set to be presented to the UN General Assembly, represents a political attack on Republika Srpska and the entire Serb nation, participants in the television show “Drugi ugao” on RTRS stated.

They argue that there is no basis for moving this issue from the Security Council to the General Assembly. Furthermore, the decision that a simple majority suffices during the voting process, they claim, is an unprecedented precedent.

Former diplomat Vladislav Jovanović emphasized that this action by the West through the General Assembly is a political maneuver and has nothing to do with preserving peace and security. It is a misuse since it bypasses the United Nations Security Council, the exclusive competent authority for maintaining global peace and security.

“In this case, the former formula from the time of the Korean War, ‘United for Peace,’ was not employed. Here, it’s not about striving for peace and security but rather a political action. It seeks to pinpoint a single culprit for all the problems that occurred in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war and that continue today. This political maneuver aims to label the Serb people as such and to tie the hands of Serbia regarding the activities that the West conducts in all areas where the Serb people reside,” Jovanović highlighted.

Vitomir Popović, a professor at the Law Faculty in Banja Luka, mentioned in the show “Drugi ugao” that if certain countries that are expected to support this so-called resolution of the General Assembly cannot be persuaded, then they are told not to come and participate in the proceedings.

“Because the majority system implies that when 15 representatives come to the General Assembly, although this is contrary to the acts of the General Assembly, it is sufficient for eight of them to agree, and they say that it has passed. However, this should not be considered a serious matter. It cannot hold significance for international relations,” Popović explains.

He says that behind the scenes, there is a whole range of other issues, primarily declaring the Serb people as genocidal.

“If that were possible, that is exactly what Izetbegović’s advisor clearly stated today, it could be a reason to abolish Republika Srpska while simultaneously obligating Serbia to pay damages. Fat chance, nothing like that will happen,” Popović emphasized.

Historian Željko Vujadinović pointed out that the Srebrenica Resolution would be the first of its kind adopted at the United Nations and as such would represent a precedent.

“It would primarily produce a type of moral consequences and consequences that need to be seriously considered. It would be an attempt to transition the truth of past times and a kind of restructuring of international relations that have been occurring over the last 30 years,” said Vujadinović.

Vujadinović noted that one of the consequences would be a deepening of the crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina itself and the question of whether the peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina can live together.

“This would pose a serious question, and the resolution would provoke one of such consequences,” Vujadinović concluded.
