Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Banja Luka, Nina Sajić, evaluated for [source] that by deciding to grant BiH candidate status, the EU sent a message that it’s time to end the protectorate of the High Representative and that the presence of OHR will contribute to the dissolution, not the preservation of BiH.
“The longer they are here, the more this country tends towards dissolution, i.e., breaking apart,” Sajić stated.
She reminded that as far back as 2008, the progress report on BiH clearly stated that the existence of OHR is at odds with BiH’s further progress towards the EU.
“This has been sidelined over the last 15 years due to pressure from the USA and Great Britain,” Sajić mentioned.
She believes that BiH cannot move towards the European family of nations with a foreign protector and that the coming period will reveal who in BiH is truly for the EU and who is not.
“If you look at the reaction of the Bosniak political elite, it’s very clear they support the protectorate and are not interested in BiH’s further advancement towards the EU,” Sajić highlighted.
She thinks it would be interesting to hear the opinion of the German Embassy or its officials, as Christian Šmit came to BiH thanks to them.
“It will be interesting to see whether Germany acts outside the EU framework or stands with its partners, the other EU members,” Sajić said.
The spokesperson for the European Commission, Peter Stano, announced that a high degree of international supervision is incompatible with BiH’s European future, following Christian Šmit’s decision to amend the Electoral Law of BiH.
Stano mentioned that Šmit’s “executive powers should only be used as a last resort against irreparable illegal actions.”
Šmit stated yesterday that he had decided to impose changes to the Electoral Law of BiH with the aim, as he says, of supporting the announced process of BiH’s accession to the EU.
