Everything is ready for the start of the fifth Energy Summit in Trebinje.

This leading business and scientific event in the region will gather the largest number of experts and representatives from the energy sector and other related companies, over eight hundred in total. The most current topics, as in previous years, include energy transition and production from renewable sources.

The deadline for a complete transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources is set for 2050.

The process requires thorough technical and administrative preparations, and this period will necessitate the construction of new capacities.

“This is a great opportunity for people to get acquainted with our potentials. You must know that Austria and Switzerland have utilized about 98% of their potentials, whereas BiH and Republika Srpska have utilized about 35%. Our potentials are much greater, including hydro, solar, and wind parks,” stated Luka Petrović, acting director of Elektroprivreda Republika Srpska.

Elektroprivreda Srpske’s intention is to obtain more green energy through new hydroenergy projects, solar, and wind farms.

“These six or seven projects currently being promoted, when realized in a few years, a large portion within Elektroprivreda will be from renewable sources,” highlighted Aleksandar Branković, director of the Energy Summit.

“Therefore, our intention to obtain electric energy as much as possible from renewable sources, will have to increase the price if we do not develop renewable sources. If we do develop them, we will have the most favorable price in the Balkans,” added Petrović.

The Summit will be attended by representatives of around two hundred eminent companies from the energy sector. This, according to the organizers, is a chance for agreements and cooperation.

“This year, the focus is on networking of electric power companies, increasing the energy capacities of renewable sources, trade, gas, we have a topic of maintaining existing thermal capacities until their shutdown,” Branković mentioned.

Current topics will also include decarbonization and legislative solutions for the final implementation of projects installing solar panels on private properties, as done by neighboring countries.

Apart from regional countries, attendance at the Energy Summit has been confirmed by businessmen from China, Turkey, Hungary, and other European countries.
