Stevandić: New U.S. Sanctions – Political Persecution Unrelated to the Judiciary

The introduction of U.S. sanctions against associates of the President of Republika Srpska represents political persecution unrelated to the judiciary, stated Nenad Stevandić, the President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska.

He emphasized that the imposition of sanctions is reminiscent of the “Kristallnacht” and represents neoliberal fascism or Nazism.

“This is how sanctions were introduced against Jews before the Holocaust. Here, we are witnessing a massive apparatus taking its toll on people who have not committed any offense, nor have they been convicted of anything,” Stevandić declared.

Stevandić believes that sanctions should also be imposed on the former U.S. ambassador who attended the January 9th celebration, as well as on Zlatko Lagumdžija, who also attended the celebration, the retired Bishop of Banja Luka, Franjo Komarica, and almost all Muftis who have participated in this holiday.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of the Treasury has imposed sanctions on the General Secretary and Advisor to the President of Republika Srpska, Jelena Pajić Baštinac, Branislav Okuka, and the Chair of the Council of Peoples of Republika Srpska, Srebrenka Golić, for, as stated, undermining the Dayton Agreement.
